Edgardo Heberto Vazquez, 92, died Saturday, June 29, 2013. He was born May 23, 1921 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, son of the late Heberto and Basilisa Rodriguez Vazquez. He was a U. S. Army veteran and served in World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Lilia Vazquez; daughters and sons-in-law, Lilia Portela and husband, Gilbert, of Roanoke Rapids, Annie Hopkins of Victorville, CA, Aileen Douglas and husband, Willie, of Antelope, CA, and Judy Vazquez of Puerto Rico; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a sister, Hilda Alcaraz of Puerto Rico.

A visitation for the family will be held Wednesday, July 3, 2013 from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Askew Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be at 9:00 a.m., Friday, July 5, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Father Pius Wekesa officiating.
